Job Description

Help Redefine How Men Experience Therapy **Position:** Independent Contractor (Part\-Time) **Location:** Fully Remote (Canada \& United States) We welcome applications from clinicians licensed to practice in Canada and/or the United States. Our current client base is primarily located in the United States, and we are actively expanding our North American clinical team. Before You Apply Therapy has never been more accessible. Yet many people still leave therapy feeling unheard, misunderstood, or given solutions before anyone truly took the time to understand their story. At Men's Mental Health Institute (MMHI), we believe great therapy begins differently. **We believe understanding comes before intervention.** Many of the men who seek us out are successful in their careers yet struggling in their relationships, marriages, identity, fatherhood, loneliness, burnout, or the aftermath of emotionally difficult relationships. They are often analytical, high\-functioning individuals who have spent years solving problems for everyone except themselves. Some have tried therapy before. Some left because they felt judged. Some felt misunderstood. Whether those perceptions are objectively accurate or not, they represent the client's lived experience—and we believe that deserves curiosity before conclusions. We don't expect our therapists to agree with every client. **We do expect them to become genuinely curious before deciding whether a client needs to be challenged.** If that philosophy resonates with you, we'd love to meet you. About MMHI Men's Mental Health Institute (MMHI) is a growing virtual psychotherapy practice dedicated to helping men build healthier relationships, stronger identities, and more meaningful lives. Approximately **95% of our clients are based in the United States**, with the remainder across Canada. Our clients include entrepreneurs, executives, engineers, healthcare professionals, veterans, tradespeople, fathers, and other high\-functioning adults seeking thoughtful, evidence\-informed care. We primarily support men navigating: * Relationship conflict * Divorce and separation * Emotional abuse and high\-conflict relationships * Burnout and chronic stress * Loneliness and identity challenges * Trauma and attachment wounds * Emotional regulation * Personal growth Our mission isn't simply to provide therapy. Our mission is to change how men experience therapy. This Isn't a Typical Therapy Role If you're looking for a role where you simply log in, see clients, write notes, and log off, MMHI probably isn't the right fit. We're building something different. Our therapists guide clients through a thoughtful therapeutic journey—from intake and collaborative treatment planning to meaningful change and successful completion of care. We primarily work within structured, goal\-oriented treatment plans while recognizing that every client's needs are unique and therapy duration should always remain clinically appropriate. You'll receive support from our marketing, appointment\-setting, client coordination, technology, and operations teams so you can focus on delivering exceptional clinical care. You'll also contribute to MMHI's mission of educating thousands of men through thoughtful, evidence\-informed public content. Who Thrives Here You'll likely thrive at MMHI if you: * Believe understanding should come before intervention. * Are naturally curious before becoming certain. * Can validate a client's experience without assuming every conclusion they draw is accurate. * Enjoy working with intelligent, analytical, and high\-functioning adults. * Know how to balance empathy with accountability. * Communicate in a relatable, thoughtful manner rather than relying on excessive clinical jargon. * Welcome feedback and continuously refine your clinical thinking. * Enjoy collaborating with a team. * Take ownership of your professional growth. * Want to build something bigger than your own caseload. This Role May Not Be the Right Fit If... * You prefer practicing completely independently with minimal collaboration. * You become uncomfortable when clients express perspectives different from your own. * You rely heavily on scripts or one\-size\-fits\-all approaches. * You're looking only for hourly session work. * You dislike receiving thoughtful feedback. * You're uninterested in contributing to a growing organization beyond your individual sessions. Your Responsibilities As an MMHI Therapist, you will: Clinical Care * Conduct comprehensive virtual intake assessments. * Collaboratively develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical formulation, client goals, and ongoing assessment. * Deliver evidence\-informed psychotherapy tailored to each client's unique needs. * Review and adjust treatment plans as clinically appropriate throughout care. * Monitor client progress using clinical judgment, outcome measures where appropriate, and ongoing collaborative review. * Conduct structured discharge planning and provide referrals when clinically appropriate. Collaboration * Collaborate with Client Coordinators and authorized members of the care team, in accordance with client consent and applicable privacy legislation. * Participate in bi\-weekly clinical meetings and monthly individual check\-ins. * Consult with fellow therapists on complex cases where appropriate. Documentation \& Quality * Complete clinical documentation within **12 hours** of each session. * Maintain documentation that meets professional, ethical, and organizational standards. * Promptly escalate high\-risk or clinically complex situations through established clinical procedures. * Participate in quality assurance reviews and ongoing professional development. Education \& Brand Contribution * Contribute to MMHI's educational mission through professional content creation and psychoeducation. * Represent MMHI professionally across public\-facing educational initiatives. * Collaborate with our marketing team to increase access to high\-quality men's mental health education. Qualifications We're interested in hearing from clinicians who are: * Registered Psychotherapists (RP or RP(Q)). * Canadian Certified Counsellors (CCC). * Licensed mental health professionals in the United States (e.g., LPC, LMHC, LPCC, LMFT, LCSW, Licensed Psychologist), where legally authorized to provide virtual care. You should also have: * A Master's degree (or higher) in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related discipline. * Professional liability insurance. * Registration in good standing with your regulatory body. * A commitment to practicing within your scope of competence. * Experience—or a strong clinical interest—in men's mental health, relationships, attachment, trauma, emotional regulation, or high\-conflict relational dynamics. * A private, confidential workspace suitable for virtual therapy. * Reliable high\-speed internet. * Comfort using technology and virtual care platforms. * Evening and weekend availability (preferred). Compensation \& Support This is an **independent contractor** opportunity. MMHI invests heavily in marketing, client acquisition, appointment setting, client coordination, operations, technology, and administrative support so our therapists can focus on delivering exceptional clinical care. Current client fee tiers include: * Resident Therapist — $90/session * Associate Therapist — $175/session * Senior Therapist — $250/session Therapists receive **40% of the applicable session fee**. You'll also receive: * Paid onboarding meetings. * Clinical collaboration and peer consultation. * Administrative and marketing support. * Opportunities to contribute to the continued growth of MMHI. Please note that client referrals are based on therapist availability, licensure, clinical fit, and client demand. Caseload growth is not guaranteed. Hiring Process * Application review. * Written screening questions. * 15\-minute introductory interview. * Clinical role\-play interview. * Final interview and reference checks. How to Apply Please submit: * Your resume. * A brief cover letter explaining why this opportunity resonated with you. * A 1–2 minute introductory video answering: * Why men's mental health? * Why MMHI? * What do you believe helps a client feel truly understood? We're not simply hiring therapists. **We're looking for clinicians who want to help redefine how men experience therapy.** **Additional Information** Successful applicants will be expected to maintain professional liability insurance, comply with all applicable privacy legislation (including PHIPA, HIPAA where applicable, and other relevant jurisdictional requirements), uphold confidentiality, and follow MMHI's clinical, privacy, and information security policies.
