**About Town House Glace Bay Citizen’s Service League**
Established in 1967, Glace Bay Citizens Service League is a volunteer based non\-profit, charitable organization which offers programs that improve the quality of life of the community of Glace Bay and surrounding areas, in response to needs identified by residents.
**Position Overview:**
We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and organized individual to join our team as our full\-time, contract **Collaborative Food Network Cook**. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our food security programs, providing nutritious meals and education to individuals and families in our community. This position is ideal for someone passionate about community service and food security.
**Job Requirements**
Education
* Completion of a diploma from a culinary school considered an asset
* Food Handlers Certification considered an asset (certification available upon employment)
Numeracy \& Literacy Skills
* Ability to work within a set budget
* Basic knowledge of mathematics to make correct measurements of ingredients
* Ability to follow recipe instructions and make quantity adjustments as needed
* Ability to maintain inventory and reorder/ shop for consumables and food supplies
* Have strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Planning and Program Development Skills
* Make adjustments to accommodate clients with specific diet and health concerns
* Develop recipes that comply with program and event needs
* Be able to set up the work station depending on program or event
* Knowledge of safe food storage guidelines
* Strong organizational skills
Kitchen/ Cooking Skills
* Experience in using different cooking tools, equipment, and utensils
* Proven experience as cook for medium/ large groups
General Skills \& Requirements
* Ability to take direction and work as a team player
* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals in the organization and also local community partners
* Ability to function well under stressful conditions and manage competing priorities
* **Valid driver’s license and occasional use of own transportation** (mileage reimbursed)
* **Successful criminal record check and vulnerable sector search**
**Primary Job Functions**
* Ensure inventory is maintained and supplies are ordered as needed (consumables and food)
* Plan menus depending on classes, programs and events
* Work with CFN Coordinator to track expenditures and complete reports, using digital tools.
* Work in various kitchen settings
* Purchase groceries and supplies through local vendors and food service wholesalers
* Ensure proper storage of all food and kitchen supplies
* Prepare food using various utensils, grillers and locations
* Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.)
* Cleaning and sterilizing food preparation areas
* Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and sterilization in food preparation areas before and after meal preparation and serving
* Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment depending on the program or event
* Efficiently resolving problems within the kitchen
* Ensuring that food health and safety regulations are followed
* Other duties as assigned

**Compensation and Hours**
$22\.00/ hour for 21 hours/ week
Town House Hours of operation are from 9am \- 4pm M\-F
8 month contract \- until March 31, 2027 with possibility of extension
